KOATS for Kids Campaign Kick’s Off

November 16, 2017

Twenty-eight years ago, New Mexicans across the state answered the call to keep kids in New Mexico warm during the cold winter months. Now, a quarter century later, KOATs for Kids has grown to one of the most recognizable and successful charitable operations in the Land of Enchantment.

The 28th annual KOATs for Kids campaign kicks off Friday, November 24th and will run through Friday, January 5th, 2018.

KOAT 7 and Blake’s Lotaburger are gathering thousands of donated coats to be distributed across New Mexico to kids in need.

Since 1989, this statewide community service event sponsored by KOAT 7 has delivered approximately 300,000 coats to needy children. Every year, thanks to viewers and partners, we are able to help kids across the state.

Can I donate an adult size coat?

Yes, we will take any size coat. We would, however, prefer children sizes, especially for grade and middle school children, sizes Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.

Can I give money instead of a coat?

While we prefer donations of coats that can be distributed to children immediately, KOATS for Kids does accept cash donations. If you would like to make a monetary donation, visit the APS Educational Foundation at City Center located at 6400 Uptown, Albuquerque or mail to P.O. Box 25704 Albuquerque, NM 87125

Is my donation tax deductible?

Please consult your tax advisor about the deductibility of your donation(s).

Is there any limit to the number of coats I can donate?

No, you may donate as many coats as you wish. New or gently used coats are preferred.

Where can I go to get a coat?

The New Mexico National Guard will pick up the donated coats. KOAT 7 will give the coats to school districts across the state who will distribute the coats to kids in need. Coats are not distributed to the public at large.

How can I get more information?

KOAT 7 has partnered with A Virtual Receptionist to set up a hotline for anyone needing further information on donating or receiving a coat. The number is (800) 678-KOAT.
